Eyes adjust, and wonder

“I've arrived in a new land. Again. The sun is constantly overhead, because it's the center of the world.
The orange sun-core glows, yet it requires alteration of the eyes to see the otherwise too-dim inner earth. And totally new senses must be acquired to truly guide oneself over this terrain. Fortunately, in a land between eternal day and eternal night, with no wind or natural sound to advise, the mind promptly grasps the need to lean on younger instincts.
One arrives here by many ways, most directly by locating an earthwheel well, then lying prone across one of its sinking steps. It takes you deep into the ground, where blackness becomes so colored and colorless you know the moment before the first eye saw its first sight. Even the Lagrange instant when the step turns you over, when North-up becomes North-down, is missed in a microsecond of directional meaninglessness.
Upon arrival, one's entire constitution feels wholly inverted. Upside down, outside in, deaf and blind, dropped in the middle of nowhere. The presence of the ego's fear echoes loudly, the truest confirmation of non-oblivion.
Then the eyes adjust, and wonder takes hold. It is freedom and light. New light.”
